California The Retirement Housing Foundation is planning to build Paloma Terrace, a low-income housing development, at 5000 S. Main St. in Los Angeles. The four-story, 107,183-sq-ft building will contain 59 units, a library, activity rooms and a basketball court. Designed by Killefer Flammang Architects, the massing of the building will be broken down into a series of boxes, cantilevered and stepped out of plane from one another. New Jersey The New Jersey Dept. of Transportation is planning the fourth of four contracts for the Route 7 Wittpenn Bridge improvements in Kearney. The project entails the final bridge and approach-roadway segments of the new vertical-lift bridge over the Hackensack River as well as improvements to the interchange at Fish House Road and demolition of the existing bridge. This project segment is valued at $16.4 million. This project is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Bid and construction schedules are not yet determined. Oklahoma Northern Oklahoma College is planning to build a dormitory on the Tonkawa campus. The two-story, 19,334-sq-ft building will contain 84 beds. Virginia Riverside Health Systems is planning to build office and retail spaces at Quarterpath at Williamsburg, a 350-acre mixed-use development at the intersection of state Route 199 and U.S. Highway 60. This segment of the project has been valued at between $25 million and $50 million. Kentucky Wehr Constructors Inc., as the construction manager-at-risk, has begun rehabilitating the First National building, located at 167 W. Main St. in Lexington. The 15-story building, designed by McKim, Mead & White and constructed in 1912, will be converted into an 88-room boutique hotel, art museum and restaurant. The 21c Museum Hotel will include a ballroom, meeting and conference spaces, a lounge and fitness center. The project designer is Deborah Berke & Partners. Tennessee Voith Hydro has begun rehabilitating the hydroelectric turbine-generator at the 135-MW Center Hill Dam in Silver Point. The project entails replacing runners and wicket gates and refurbishing servomotors. It also includes replacing the generator stator windings, restacking the existing generator, installing the vibration monitoring system and a high-pressure thrust-bearing oil lift system, and refurbishing the unit brake system. Wisconsin Tri-North Builders Inc. has started building The Corners, a mixed-use project on a 19-acre site in Brookfield. The project will include 383,751 sq ft of retail space; 224,750 sq ft of residential space, comprising 155 units; 1,839 parking spaces; and the demolition of an existing strip mall. Florida 9/9 Daytona State College is requesting qualifications from architects-engineers interested in designing a future student center building on the Daytona Beach campus. Michigan 9/11 The Macomb County Public Works Commission and the Oakland County Water Resources Commission are seeking contractors to carry out Contract 5 of the Oakland- Macomb Interceptor Drain rehabilitation. The Contract 5 repair work will be located along the Oakland Arm Interceptor, extending along Utica Road in the cities of Sterling Heights and Utica and the township of Shelby. To facilitate financing, Contract 5 will be split into two separate contracts: Phase 5A and Phase 5B, both to be awarded based on a single combined bid. 5A entails building permanent gravel roadways and temporary crossings, and 5B entails constructing two access shafts and repairing a hole in the PCI-9 interceptor.
