In my family, we have a bad habit of leaving things on top of the car and then driving off.  Over the years, we’ve left salad bowls, shopping bags, cameras, and one time the hedge clippers. Amazingly, the items have usually made it back home after a ride about town. Even the hedge clippers.

Last weekend my wife Lauren came up with an impressive new addition to our list.

She drove off with a spare set of keys on the car roof. The keys sat on the roof for over a day. She became aware of them when she hit a bump driving on I-95 and heard some rattling above. At that point she remembered she couldn’t find the spare set the previous day and then remembered where she left them. When she returned home, the keys were still safely perched on the roof.
