Planning Massachusetts The Massachusetts Dept. of Transportation is planning to carry out a bridge rehabilitation project in Chelmsford. The project entails improving the bridge carrying Westford St. over Interstate 495. The work includes removing and replacing the reinforced concrete deck slab; upgrading the bridge rail and the approach guard rail; removing and replacing the joints over the piers with the asphaltic joint; checking the existing girders for fatigue; repairing the existing abutments backwall and breastwall, beams, pedestals, deteriorated area of pier cap and spalled/delamination area on the columns; and removing and resetting the existing riprap where it has settled. The first phase will consist of four cars and a 2.5-mile route through downtown and will cost $98.9 million. A later, 10-mile extension south to the airport is not yet fully funded. Bids, Contracts, Proposals Alabama The Alabama State Port Authority is planning to develop the Garrow Point intermodal container transfer facility at Choctaw Point in Mobile and has selected the Milord Co. as the general contractor. The project entails relocation/modification of the existing storm drain network, paving, construction of two operating tracks, a run-around track and a rail car repair siding, each of which will be a minimum of 3,000 ft long. It will also include installation of rubber-tired gantry runways, chassis storage areas, gates and power distribution systems.
