Package slashes GSA federal buildings construction and freezes State Dept. embassy construction.

Consciously constructed to minimize impact on municipal resources and maximize integration of sustainable systems, this multicomplex project used various green design elements to elevate embassy’s 11-acre campus to LEED Certified Platinum—the first West Africa project to achieve this certification.

Contract has a total value of $209.9 million.

Project site is in Eko Atlantic, a city being built on reclaimed land.

In past six months, department awarded seven construction and 11 design services contracts.

When Edwin R. Nolan, the U.S. ambassador to Suriname, held the embassy’s annual July 4 celebration this year in Paramaribo, it didn’t take place at the ambassador’s residence—where it has been held before­—but at the new embassy complex, completed less than a year earlier. 

The State Dept. is pushing forward with its embassy construction program, expecting to award contracts this year to build four new facilities and renovate two others.
