PROJECT COST: $29 Million IMAGE: DGI OF NEVADA City of Henderson Detention Center Expansion The Henderson Detention Center, originally built in 1994 to house 262 inmates, is being expanded by 73,827 sq ft to add an additional 250 beds, with a new public entry, vehicle sally port, booking area and administration building. Another 8,000 sq ft is being renovated, including an improved kitchen, exercise rooms and a new staff lounge with an exterior patio. Last year, construction teams broke ground on 30 large-scale projects across the Northwest totalling $4.5 billion of work. Some projects beginning in 2008 were also included if they weren’t included in last year’s Top Project Starts. One project, the $240-million Sea-Tac Airport Rental Car Facility, is actually the largest ‘re-start’, having shut down in 2008 and then restarted in summer 2009.
