The JCB 457 Wheel Loader is powered by a Interim Tier 4, 8.9-liter Cummins engine that delivers 250 hp. It replaces the 456 model, and its heavier frame boosts its bucket carying capacity by a quarter of a ton. Other improvements include moving the hydraulic tank to beneath the cab to reduce chance of damage, and a sloping rear canopy to improve operator visibility. A new economy mode reduces engine output for fuel savings of up to 6%. A four-speed automatic transmission comes standard, with a five-speed power transmission available as an option.
