Located in a Special Economic Zone between Malaysia and Singapore to enable free trade and investment, Southern Marina Residences provides much lower housing costs than in nearby Singapore as well as creating jobs and aiding the local Malaysian economy. The first phase of a 12.5-acre mixed-use development, Southern Marina Residences includes 456 condo units in two 28-story towers atop a podium with retail and parking. The team used factory-assembled, reusable aluminum formwork to construct the reinforced concrete structure, which it says ensures quality and uniformity.

Chinese contractor Shanxi Construction Investment Group says communication was a key for quality control, with designers from Singapore and Malaysia and subcontractors from Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Vietnam. To create uniformity among the diverse group, Shanxi adopted and trained its team in the CONQUAS system, developed in Singapore, to provide quality standards in structural, architectural, mechanical and electrical work.
