Missouri-Illinois The Terminal Railroad Association is seeking bidders to carry out the rehabilitation of the Merchants Bridge, a 4,340-ft-long steel truss railroad bridge across the Mississippi River erected in 1889. The work entails temporarily removing the existing scour protection (stone revetment) around the four existing masonry river piers. It also involves improving bridge seismic capacity by encasing the four existing rubble infill masonry river piers in reinforced concrete with additional drilled shafts or micropiles drilled into river bedrock; replacing scour protection (stone revetment); removing existing ties and rails in river spans; removing three existing river trusses by either blast demolition or float-out and constructing three new steel trusses and float into place; and installing ballast deck and new double track.
