Alabama Airbus is planning to build its first assembly plant in the U.S. in Mobile. The project entails building a 1.5-million-sq-ft plant at Brookley Aeroplex that will produce 150-seat A320 planes. Illinois Ivanhoe Cambridge and Hines, two major real estate developers, are planning to build River Point, an office building, in downtown Chicago's West Loop neighborhood. The project entails building a 45-story, 900,000-sq-ft building at 444 West Lake St. The project will include a parking garage, as well as a 1.5-acre public park built over rail tracks, which will connect the office tower to the Chicago Riverwalk. It is being designed by Pickard Chilton. Construction is expected to begin in late 2012 and be completed in early 2016. The project is valued at $300 million. Iowa The City of Sioux City is planning to build a consolidated field operations facility to house offices and equipment for its utilities, parks and transit departments, and a central maintenance garage. The project entails building four buildings, including a main building, a cold storage building, car and truck washing facilities and a fueling island. It will be designed by Neumann Monson Wictor Architects. The project is valued at $18 million. Bids/Contracts/Proposals

Georgia Georgia State University has selected Heery International to provide interior design and engineering services for the first phase of the adaptive reuse of the former SunTrust Bank headquarters building in downtown Atlanta. The project involves retrofitting six floors, totaling 90,000-sq-ft, of the 27-story office tower for use by GSU. The space will be converted to accommodate faculty, staff and graduate-student offices and meeting rooms. Heery is also designing mechanical/electrical/plumbing improvements for the entire building: emergency power, building automation controls and low-voltage power. Phase-one construction is scheduled for completion by December 2012. Future plans for the building entail renovations to the remaining floors to house similar GSU office and meeting space. Virginia James Madison University has awarded Skanska a $33 million contract for the expansion and renovation of Duke Hall, which contains the university's School of Art and Art History programs. The project entails renovating the 65,000-sq-ft existing building, and building a three-story, 51,500-sq-ft addition. The project includes the replacement of the building's main electrical, telecommunications, plumbing and mechanical systems, the installation of new elevators to meet current building code requirements, and modifications to the visual art studios and labs to meet updated life safety codes. Washington 8/31 The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking bidders to perform maintenance dredging of the Grays Harbor Inner Navigation Channel. The project entails clamshell dredging of approximately 1 million cu yd of sediment for three performance periods. Additionally, 600,000 cu yd of material will be dredged from the Cow Point and Cow Point Turning Basin. Disposal of all dredged material shall be deposited at the Point Chehalis or South Jetty disposal areas. The project is valued at between $10 million and $25 million.
