HITT Contracting Inc. is ENR MidAtlantic's 2019 Contractor of the Year.

With 1,100 employees in 10 offices nationwide, the Falls Church, Va.-based firm has doubled its revenue and geographic reach in the last 10 years, adding six new offices including on the West Coast. The firm attribute this growth to the strength of its relationships with its clients. The firm says it often enters new markets to serve Fortune 500 firms across the country. HITT has also continued to expand its service offerings in market sectors such as the corporate office sector and mission critical sector. In 2018, HITT delivered more than 150 megawatts of mission-critical infrastructure for enterprise, hyperscale and colocation data center firms and telecommunications clients.

The firm also recently opened its new research and development facility. A design collaboration with architect William McDonough + Partners, the facility is one of the first cross-laminated timber structures in the Washington, D.C. area. HITT says the building's ultra-efficient mechanical, electrical and plumbing package, combined with the building's solar array, is expected to produce a Net Zero Energy building. In addition to obtaining LEED v4 Platinum status, the project is targeting Petal Certification from the International Living Future Institute's Living Building Challenge. The project included an exterior computerized green wall and a reclaimed millwork from harvesting on-site trees. The project team also focused on healthy material procurement. The building includes double-height bay space for rotating research projects that the firm says will be based on "stakeholder insights."

HITT will be recognized as Contractor of the Year at the ENR MidAtlantic Best Projects awards banquet in Baltimore on Nov. 5.

The firm will also be profiled in the August issue of ENR MidAtlantic, which will feature the region's annual Top Contractor rankings. HITT ranked No. 5 on last year's survey with $1.1 billion in regional revenue.
