Topping the list is the $1.3-billion-plus Central Texas highway project, SH 130, segments five and six. The list of 25 highlighted projects in this feature, with a total combined value of $4.4 billion, is dominated by transportation and military construction. Brennan’s of Houston reopened Feb. 15 after being severely damaged by fire as a result of Hurricane Ike in September 2008. Houston-based Studio RED Architects worked with a team including Houston-based Linbeck Construction to restore a majority of the original John F. Staub 1930 design while bringing the building up to codes and standards. Cadence McShane Construction Co. – with offices in Austin, Houston and Dallas – was awarded a 356,000-sq-ft industrial assignment for Weingarten Realty Investors. The job includes 326,000 sq ft of extensive renovations, as well as 30,000 sq ft of new construction at the existing ClayPoint 4 industrial building located on a 40-acre site in Weingarten Realty Investors’ ClayPoint Distribution Park in the northwest industrial corridor of Houston. Schlitterbahn, Texas’ water-based entertainment destination, is planning a new entertainment resort - the Schlitterbahn Boutique Hotel and Conference Center in Cedar Park, north of Austin. The project includes lodging, retail, restaurants, a conference center and a year-round waterpark. The first phase is scheduled to open summer 2012. The Austin offices of Hardin Construction Co. began work on a $11.9-million Center for Health and Wellness at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa with a slated completion of October. The center will include medical offices, a gym, pools, and spaces for rehabilitation therapy, as well as urgent care and patient imaging. Houston-based Llewelyn-Davies Sahni will lead renovation projects at two Houston ISD elementary campuses: Herrera Elementary and Burris Elementary in Houston.
