The 2,782-acre project will include up to 1,700 single-family homes and up to 2,000 multifamily units. It will also feature 4 million sq ft of nonresidential uses: 3 million sq ft of commercial retail, 500,000 sq ft of office space, 500,000 sq ft of light industrial use and 650 hotel rooms. Virginia The Virginia Dept. of General Services is planning to renovate the Virginia Supreme Court building in Richmond. Alaska The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is currently evaluating submissions from firms capable of providing the necessary labor, materials and equipment to carry out a modification project to the Moose Creek Dam in North Pole. The project involves constructing a mix-in-place barrier wall in the embankment of the dam at the Chena River Lakes Flood Control Project. This will consist of constructing 4.5 miles of barrier wall 56 to 66.5 ft below the crest of the dam embankment with Portland cement and bentonite. The barrier wall is expected to be between 18 and 30 in. wide. Sheet pile will be driven around the low point drain and control works to have a continuous wall through penetrations in the embankment. The intent of the barrier wall is to sever a continuous fine grained sand/silty sand that is highly erodible under the embankment material. The 8.1-mile-long dam was built in 1981 and protects Fairbanks and adjacent communities from floodwaters. The project is valued at between $100 million and $250 million. Oklahoma The Boldt Co. has begun constructing the Blessed Stanley Rother Shrine, the largest Catholic church in Oklahoma. The project includes a 2,000-seat church, a 200-seat chapel, a museum and a pilgrim center. The complex is being built on a 56-acre site at Southeast 89th Street between Shields Boulevard and I-35 in Oklahoma City. The project owner is the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Oklahoma. Tennessee Merit Construction has begun building the Soaky Mountain Water­park in Sevierville. The 50-acre waterpark will include a 35,000-sq-ft wave pool, a 24,000-sq-ft wave river, a FlowRider Double surf simulator, four large slide complexes and a tubing tower with five flumes. Utah 11/5 The Federal Highway Administration is seeking bidders to carry out Strawberry Sheep Creek improvements in Wasatch County. The project entails road widening, reconstruction, asphalt surfacing, drainage, and safety improvements to the unpaved 12.24 miles of Unicorn Ridge-Indian Creek Road between the intersections with Sheep Creek, Rays Valley Road and West Side Strawberry Road.
