ALABAMA The Alabama Dept. of Transportation is planning to widen Interstate 59 in Tuscaloosa County. The project entails adding more lanes to I-59 from south of the County Road 1900 (Black Warrior Parkway) interchange to State Route 6/U.S. Route 82 (McFarland Boulevard). COLORADO The City and County of Denver are planning to build the National Western Center Equestrian Center at 4655 Humboldt St. The 526,440-sq-ft complex will include 486,600 sq ft of enclosed equestrian facilities and 39,840 sq ft of covered open-air facilities. It will include a 4,500-seat equestrian events center, a 500-seat equestrian show arena, a 220,000-sq-ft horse barn, two enclosed paddocks (56,000 sq ft), and two covered, open-air practice areas (39,840 sq ft) It will also include a 325,000-sq-ft subgrade (walkout type) parking garage with 1,050 parking spaces. CONNECTICUT BRT General Corp. is planning to construct the Brainerd Place mixed-use development in Portland. Phase 1 will include construction of a 37,500-sq-ft retail and office building, a pharmacy, coffee shop, restaurant and leasing center as well as a three-story apartment building with 102 units. Phase 2 will include the final 37,500 sq ft of the retail and office building and would add a 134-unit, four-story apartment building. It is being designed by Munkittrick Associates. ILLINOIS Ryan Companies U.S. Inc. is planning to build a 400,000-sq-ft speculative industrial building in the Pullman Crossings business park in Chicago. The building specs will include 36-ft clear height, 56-ft bays, and up to 120 dock positions with dedicated trailer parking. The project is valued between $25 million and $50 million. KANSAS Woodbury Corp. is planning to develop a medical office building on a portion of the former site of the Great Mall of the Great Plains, in Olathe. HAWAII The Naval Facilities Engineering Command has awarded a $48.3-million firm-fixed-price contract to Hawaiian Dredging Construction Co. for installation of a 42-in.-dia potable water transmission main at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. The line will run from the Waiawa Pump Station to the existing 42-in.-dia water main near the intersection of Lehua Avenue and Second Street. It also includes installation of a 16-in.-dia potable water line for continuation of service to the Manana Housing Area, as well as a 12-in.-dia fire line reconnection for the Hawaii Army National Guard facility. The Beaux Arts-style building, erected in 1907, was designed by Cass Gilbert, and is on the National Register of Historic Places for both its exterior and public interior spaces.
