Completed in April in New York City, this 12-story condominium building stands out with its curvaceous metal exoskeleton—fabricated in Italy—in a design that incorporates architecture, art and technology. The handcrafted stainless-steel panels form interlocking steel chevrons that produce a softened edge at the corners where walls meet floor slabs. The building provides space for 40 luxury residences, retail, swimming pools, a spa, an automated parking system, a gym and terraces. The L-shaped building’s split floor levels, where the even floors on the east side are offset by about half a floor height from the odd-numbered floors on the west and south sides, resulted in complex zoning that essentially treated the structure as two separate buildings. This required construction of two building cores as well as separate fire exits and means of egress for the alternating even and odd floors.
