Arizona The Flood Control District of Maricopa County is planning to implement the Agua Fria Watercourse master plan in Maricopa County, which will extend 32 miles from Indian School Road to the Central Arizona Project siphon crossing. The channelization alternative will create a 1,200-ft-wide corridor that will incorporate a flood channel, a mid-terrace floodplain and a 100-ft-wide landscape buffer on either side. The corridor will provide a continuous riverway for water conveyance as well as providing multiuse opportunities for trails, parks and open-space recreation. The entire channelized section will provide protection from a 100-year flood. Harrington Planning + Design is providing consulting engineering services. Indiana Fair Oaks Farms, a large-scale dairy farm and tourist attraction in Fair Oaks, is planning to build a cheese manufacturing facility and dairy products learning center. North Carolina Avangrid Renewables is planning to develop the 1,500-MW Kitty Hawk Wind Farm on a 122,405-acre offshore site about 27 miles off the Outer Banks and about 30 miles long. Avangrid will need to set up testing towers and other gear to assess the site in order to determine how many wind towers to build and how far apart they should be. South Dakota The South Dakota Bureau of Administration is planning to renovate the DakotaDome, a multipurpose stadium at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. The project will involve adding new permanent seating on the stadium’s west side, football locker rooms and coaches’ offices; renovating existing restrooms; and installing new synthetic turf on the exterior practice field. The renovation will include upgrades to the plumbing, HVAC, electrical and sound systems and video boards, as well as ADA improvements. JLG Architects is the designer, and Fiegen Construction Co. has been selected as the construction manager-at-risk. Construction is expected to start in January 2019. Tennessee The Tennessee Dept. of Transportation is planning to construct a bypass around Greeneville. The design has not yet been determined. Either a new four-lane roadway north of the existing U.S. Route 11E will be built, or the four-lane Route 11E will be widened to six lanes. The project will provide access via interchanges at each end, as well as at State Route 70, State Route 172 and State Route 93. The project is valued at $166 million. Mississippi Trey Construction has started work on site development for the Silo Square mixed-use project in Southaven. The project will total about 250 apartments: 128 apartments in eight two-story buildings and 125 loft apartments above ground-floor retail space in three-story buildings on the square. A general contractor may be selected during the fall of 2018. The project developer is Lifestyle Communities LLC. The project is valued between $15 million and $25 million. New Mexico Caddell Construction Co. has started constructing a new headquarters for the National Nuclear Security Administration at Kirkland Air Force Base in Albuquerque. The three-story, 330,000-sq-ft building will contain offices, data centers, a fitness center, vault-type rooms, sound transmission prevention and blast prevention design. Ohio 6/19 Model Group, the general contractor, is seeking subcontractor bidders to renovate the Madison Villa Senior Housing apartments in Cincinnati. The project will consist of replacing roofs, doors and windows and updating all interior fixtures for 93 apartments. The project owner is Episcopal Retirement Services. Washington 6/22 Chelan County Public Utility District No. 1 is requesting information from contractors and vendors in order to plan the rehabilitation of eight bulb turbines/generators at the Rock Island Powerhouse at the Rock Island Dam in Malaga. The project will entail the refurbishment of most major components, replacement of some due to known poor condition and limited remaining life, and procurement of some new components to mitigate schedule impacts from finding irreparable items during the construction outages. The proposed project schedule includes construction outages beginning in the third quarter of 2021, with the entire project set to be completed in the first quarter of 2029.
