Chicago City Council Approves $8.5B O'Hare Airport Upgrade
The Chicago City Council approved an $8.5-billion upgrade of O’Hare International Airport March 27, paid for entirely by anchor airlines United, American, Spirit and Delta. Gates would increase to 220 from 180, and Terminal 2 would become a “global” terminal while Terminals 1, 3 and 5 would all expand. Earlier in the week, the council’s finance committee OK’d a $4- billion funding measure, money the city says the airlines will repay. The expansion is slated for completion by 2026.
