The Editor's Update: Putting Together The Top 25 Newsmakers

New ENR Office Writers and editors—(from left) Debra Rubin, Aileen Cho, Richard Korman, Andrew Wright, Nadine Post and Jan Tuchman—review Newsmaker layouts on the 60th floor of the Empire State Building.
This week completes an annual ritual for ENR editors. Each fall, we comb through the issues of the previous year for individuals who have served the best interests of the construction industry and the public. These innovators, pioneers and leaders become the Top 25 Newsmakers, who are featured in a special report (see p. 25).
During six intense sessions, the whole team presents and critiques candidates, looking for those who have gone above and beyond. After picking the Top 25, we vote to decide which Newsmaker will receive the Award of Excellence, ENR’s highest honor.
Tudor Van Hampton, ENR managing editor, has been guiding the Newsmaker selection process for a number of years.
“Before making a decision, we thoroughly research candidates’ credentials. Along the way, we often discover developments in the industry that we might otherwise have missed,” he says.
New to the process is Art Director Scott Hilling, who joined the ENR staff last year, when we became part of BNP Media. “This year’s Top 25 cover look is a colorful, faceted design that I crafted to represent the many different backgrounds, industries and accomplishments of our Newsmakers,” he says.
The Top 25 Newsmakers and Award of Excellence winner will be honored at a luncheon and black-tie gala at the Marriott Marquis in New York City on April 7. To join the celebration, visit enrawardofexcellence.com to register for tickets.
