Kuwait The Kuwait National Petroleum Co. has awarded several major contracts for work to upgrade a pair of refineries as part of its Clean Fuels Project. KNPC awarded a $3.7-billion contract to a consortium—led by Petrofac, along with its partners Samsung Engineering and CB&I—to upgrade the Mina Abdullah I refinery. Mexico Cemex and Fisterra Energy are planning to build the Ventika and Ventika II wind farms in the state of Nuevo Leon. Each of the two wind farms will have a capacity of 126 MW. Combined, they will consist of eighty-four 3-MW wind-power turbines, with 116-m-dia rotors, mounted on 120- meter-high concrete towers. The Acciona Group is the general contractor. Qatar Qatar Railways Co. is planning to build the Gold Line of the Doha Metro, which will entail twin tunnels 11 kilometers long and nine underground stations. The owner has selected a five-partner consortium to design and build the project. United Arab Emirates CH2M Hill, serving as program manager, is currently managing the Strategic Tunnel Enhancement Program, a gravity-driven, hydraulic tunnel network for wastewater. The project owner is the Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Co. The program consists of three components: a 41- kilometer-long sewer tunnel; 43 km of smaller-dia link sewers; and a pumping station with a design capacity of 30 cu meters per second. Link sewers will be used to intercept flows from existing gravity sewers upstream of the existing pumping stations. The flows will be channeled by gravity via the deep-tunnel sewer to the main pumping station, then lifted to the central wastewater treatment facilities.
