Australia Hong Kong-based developer Tony Fung is planning to build the Aquis Great Barrier Reef Resort in Cairns. The resort will include nine luxury hotels containing 3,750 rooms, 1,180 apartments, 130 villas, a casino, a 25,000-seat stadium, a 485,000-sq-ft convention and exhibition center, two 2,500-seat theaters, an aquarium and a golf course. Canada The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology is planning to build the NAIT Centre for Applied Technologies in Edmonton. The five-story, 530,000-sq-ft building will contain 76 classrooms, a 135-seat lecture hall, 27 simulation labs, a health clinic and a cafe. The project has been valued at $240 million. Cayman Islands The Cayman Islands Government Dept. of Planning is planning to build the Kai Village mixed-use development on Grand Cayman. The project entails building a hotel and condos, totaling as much as 350,000 sq ft, and a marina. It is being designed by the Burns Conolly Group. Denmark The Lego Group is planning to build the Lego House Experience Center in Billund. The 75,000-sq-ft building will incorporate exhibition areas, stores, a cafe and a rooftop garden. It is being designed by the Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). Construction is expected to begin in March 2014 and be completed in 2016. The project's value has been estimated at $10 million. El Salvador SolEnergy Farms, a joint venture of Perfect Energy and Solar Horizon Inc., plans to build a 10-MW photovoltaic powerplant in San Vicente Department. Germany Land Baden-Wurttemberg is planning to build the Stuttgart Citizen and Media Centre. The 2,800-sq-meter building will contain multiple conference spaces and an exhibition area and will host press conferences and debates. The structure will be located mostly underground and serve as an entryway to the parliament building. It was designed by Henning Larsen Architects. Japan The Japan Sport Council is planning to build the National Stadium of Japan in Tokyo. The 80,000-seat stadium will host the 2019 Rugby World Cup and the 2020 Summer Olympics. Lebanon The U.S. State Dept. is planning to build a new U.S. embassy complex on a 43-acre site in Aoukar, 11 kilometers north of Beirut. The project entails building a chancery, office-support buildings, a parking structure, a lodging facility, a Marine residence, access-control facilities and a community center. United Kingdom The Northern Ireland Community Safety College is planning to build a new academic and practical training campus for the police, prison, fire and rescue services of Northern Ireland on a 317-acre site in Cookstown. The academic campus will consist of five buildings, totaling 23,000 sq m. The tactical village will consist of approximately 150 mock shell-and-core buildings intended to simulate an urban environment. It is being designed by Pringle Brandon Perkins + Will.
