Arkansas The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Dept. has chosen Robertson Inc. to carry out the Black Rock–Portia highway-widening project, which entails widening to five lanes 1.5 miles of Highway 63 in Lawrence County. The job includes laying an aggregate base, binder and surface courses, including on two bridges. Construction is expected to start in January 2015. The project is valued at $13.8 million. Connecticut The Connecticut Dept. of Transportation is planning to replace the 118-year-old Norwalk River rail bridge, known as the "Walk Bridge." One of several movable spans on Metro North's New Haven line, the decision to replace the bridge follows two incidents last summer in which the bridge got stuck in the open position, after allow boat traffic to pass. Illinois The College of Lake County is planning to build a new science building on its campus in Grayslake. The project entails constructing a new four-story, 41,881-sq-ft building and renovating 24,971 sq ft of existing space. The new addition will house offices as well as engineering, chemistry and photonics labs. Legat Architects is the designer, and Path Construction Co. is the general contractor. Louisiana Ram Terminals LLC is planning to build a coal export terminal in Myrtle Grove. The 600-acre terminal will process six million tons of coal per year. Lanier & Associates is the designer. New York Hailey Development Group has started converting to luxury condominiums a portion of an existing loft building in Brooklyn's Red Hook neighborhood. Ohio Black & Veatch Corp. has started building the Oregon Clean Energy Center in Oregon, Ohio. The combined-cycle, natural-gas-fueled facility with high-efficiency combustion turbines and heat-recovery steam generators will produce 869 MW of electricity and have state-of-the-art pollution controls. Tennessee 12/16 The University of Tennessee is seeking subcontractor bidders for the West Campus redevelopment project in Knoxville. The project involves replacing residence halls and dining facilities by demolishing six existing buildings and constructing new low-rise buildings.
