California The University of California, Merced, has selected ProWest Construction to provide construction management services for phase four of the 115,000-sq-ft, four- to five-story student housing project. The facility will provide approximately 362 beds, primarily for freshmen, in double-occupancy bedrooms; groups of five rooms will share group bathrooms. The ground floor of the building will contain administrative, meeting, laundry and various types of support space as well as some dormitory rooms in one of the wings. Georgia The Cobb County Board of Education has awarded a $14.7-million contract to Carroll Daniel Construction Co. to build the new Clarkdale Elementary School. The old school was destroyed by a flood in September 2009. The project entails building a two-story, 130,000-sq-ft building containing 53 classrooms adjacent to Cooper Middle School in Austell. New Mexico Central New Mexico Community College has selected Gerald Martin Ltd. to provide construction management-at-risk services for the renovation of the 134,808-sq-ft Jeannette Stromberg Hall and the 24,980-sq-ft South Building, which are located at the main campus in Albuquerque. New York The New York State Dept. of Transportation has selected Tectonic Engineering to provide inspection services for phase-two construction at the Exit 122 interchange of state Route 17 in Orange County. The project includes loop and diagonal ramps, rehabilitation of the Route 17 bridge over I-84, three new bridge structures and several retaining walls as well as geotechnical inspection. Washington The Port of Vancouver has selected Wiser Rail Engineering to provide construction management and engineering services for the West Vancouver Freight Access (WVFA) rail project. The required work includes rail improvement identification, right-of-way assessments and value engineering. The overall WVFA project entails nearly 40 miles of new track and the relocation of port facilities and utilities, all of which will remove a significant choke point from the regional rail system and reduce current delays in rail traffic by as much as 40%. The building will include a 250-seat teaching auditorium, lecture rooms, nursing skills labs and labs for biotechnology, biology, microbiology, anatomy and physiology.
