The Chalmette Cultural Arts Center is a 90,000-sq-ft, cast-in-place concrete addition to the Chalmette High School—and a source of community pride for Katrina-devastated St. Bernard Parish.

Delivered in December 2010 by MAPP Construction, Baton Rouge, the $30-million brick and stainless steel panel-clad building features a centerpiece 420-seat theater with a 50-ft-high ceiling, a glass atrium lobby and a 7,980-sq-ft public library.

The MAPP Construction team met post-Katrina elevation and foundation requirements, installed 338,000 cu ft of EPS foam blocks and used Timberline and Primavera software.
