Complying with state-mandated seismic deadlines, this seven-story, acute-care replacement hospital in Castro Valley is also the industry's first to use an 11-party integrated project delivery contract, in which the owner and 10 participants are contractually required to collaborate. The project was delivered ahead of schedule and under budget.

The Sutter Health Eden Medical Center project won an Award of Merit in the health-care category of ENR California's annual 'Best Projects' contest.

Substantially complete in October 2012, the $194-million Sutter Health Eden Medical Center includes private patient rooms that maximize daylighting; 30 universal care units; a level-2 trauma center; an MRI suite; seven operating rooms; two catheterization labs; and 24 emergency-room stations.

From the start, 3D technologies facilitated the design and creation of components, increasing offsite fabrication and pre-assembly.
