U.S. and Mexico inked a memorandum of understanding to accelerate six cross‑border wastewater projects aiming to end the Tijuana River sewage crisis by 2027.

Administrator Lee Zeldin called for Mexico to work with the U.S. to finally end sewage flows from Tijuana into southern San Diego County. 

If approved by Congress, added funds for upgrade would prevent and reduce sewage flows and contamination in southern California.

The agency that operates the plant is preparing to undertake $8 million in repairs, in addition to previously planned projects estimated to cost hundreds of millions more.
