BOND Civil & Utility Construction Inc. in Bronx, N.Y., had significant growth in 2019 as it combined more than a century of history with a year of innovation and staff gains -- reasons it's been named ENR New York's Specialty Contractor of the Year.

Tony Bond, a fifth-generation family member, was appointed president Jan. 1, 2019. In addition, the firm, a subsidiary of the Massachusetts-based BOND, hired 24 new team members for the New York/New Jersey region and 152 companywide that year. In the fiscal year ending Oct. 2019, BOND had regional revenue of $70,386,177 – 87% growth compared to its regional revenue of $37.6M in 2018, when the firm was the civil/utility division of parent company BOND. BOND Civil & Utility’s overall revenue this year was $238,990,515.

The company also brags several innovations with software in the past year. Two of them:
•  In 2019 it provided feedback, via a testing program, to the construction software company HCSS on the development of HCSS Aerial to assist with getting the product market ready. HCSS Aerial builds 3D point clouds from drone photogrammetry that allows the teams to acquire models with a 1-inch accuracy.
•  The firm also collaborated with HCSS and Command Alkon through testing and product feedback based on its own requirements to implement a software plug-in that includes data from materials vendors into job costs, so that the team can order, track and receive materials through a mobile app. Field teams now cost code materials as they arrive and provide real time feedback to the batch plant to help optimize the mixes (e.g. “slump is low” could let the plant know to include more water in the next truck).

Its largest regional project completed in 2019 is the Millennium Pipeline LLC - Ramapo M&R Station in  Ramapo, N.Y. The firm’s largest regional project to break ground the same year is the Williams Transco - Station 240 LNG Modernization in Carlstdat, N.J.
