With growing demand for grade-control systems on its dozers, John Deere has launched the 700K Smart Dozer, which features an integrated 3D grade-control system from Topcon Positioning Systems, eliminating the relatively fragile masts that most systems are mounted on.
China-based Zoomlion may have ruffled some feathers when it offered to buy Terex Corp. for roughly twice its share price, but according to sources with Terex the long-planned merger with Finland-based Konecrane is still moving along.
In a furious hourlong competition that set two dozen teams from around the world against each other in a test of masonry skills, Scott Tuttle of Quick Trowel Masonry in Clearfield, Utah, was crowned champion of Spec Mix Bricklayer 500 competition at World of Concrete in Las Vegas. Tuttle’s prizes included the keys to a brand new 2016 Ford F-250 XLT 4x4 pickup truck.
With crowds braving an unseasonably chilly Las Vegas, World of Concrete 2016 opened with an estimated 5% increase in registered attendees compared to 2015. Held Feb. 2-5, the trade show draws in crowds eager to see the latest in concrete and masonry products and equipment.
Citing pent-up demand, Portland Cement Association chief economist Edward Sullivan say he expects to see a 5% growth in portland cement consumption in 2016, with a further 5.7% growth of growth in 2017. This is an improvement over the growth rate from 2015, which was only 3.5%.
