New construction starts in March came in at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $404.9 billion, essentially the same pace as February, according to McGraw-Hill Construction, a division of The McGraw-Hill Cos. While total construction was unchanged from the prior month, this steady pattern came as the result of divergent behavior by construction�s three main sectors. Nonresidential building in March increased sharply, following its subdued activity earlier this year, but declines were registered by housing and nonbuilding construction (public works and electric utilities). Tower One Construction, a Denver-based general contractor, recently completed the Newton Theater Rehearsal Space located at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House in the Denver Performing Arts Center. The $1.5-million project remodeled 8,100 sq ft of existing space on the fourth floor loft. It includes a new dance floor, bar and pre-function area. A state-of-the-art audio-visual system was also installed. The loft area will be used for social gatherings, opera-education lectures, rehearsal space and dance recitals. Denver Mayor Bill Vidal celebrated the opening of the new venue with a ribbon cutting on May 10.
A new green senior living community in Lakewood is complete and ready for tenants�the Creekside Residences West located near Pierce Street and Colfax Avenue. The project is the second phase of the Residences at Creekside Community. The project team consisted of owner Metro West Housing Solutions; general contractor Calcon Constructors; architect Studio Completiva Inc.; engineer ABS Consultants; and E Light Electric, electrical contractor. The four-story, independent, senior living community includes 83 low-to moderate -income, one- and two-bedroom apartments ranging in size from 650 to 820 sq ft.
