Since fall 1998, the Walking Mountains Science Center in Avon, Colo., has inspired environmental stewardship through natural science education. Northern Colorado military veterans and their families and members of the community celebrated the grand opening of Veterans Plaza in Fort Collins—a site of celebration, reflection and congregation honoring military service—on May 29.. The plaza is located at the west end of Horsetooth Road, at the south entrance to Spring Canyon Park. New research by the Harvard Center for Risk Analysis (HCRA) at the School of Public Health estimates that the additional fine-particulate matter emissions that can be traced back to traffic congestion in the nation’s 83 largest urban areas lead to more than 2,200 premature deaths in the U.S. last year. Construction spending inched up for the second straight month in April, 0.4% – following downward revisions to the March spending figures – thanks to increases in private nonresidential and home-improvement spending, the Associated General Contractors of America reported in late May in an analysis of new Census Bureau data. Turner Construction recently completed a $20-million renovation of the meeting spaces and guestrooms at Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado Springs. This is the first extensive renovation at the resort since the property came under new ownership and was partially refurbished in 1996.
