The joint system is installed from above and requires no invasive anchors. SJS FR-1 is able to handle vehicle loads and can be used in parking decks, stadiums and other high-traffic structures. The system consists of two horizontal fire-rated joints preassembled around a composite spline. The spline is the attach point for traffic plates that bear the loads. Milwaukee Electric Tool Corp, Brookfield, Wis., used a one-day symposium in late July to unveil more than a dozen new tools—ranging from a battery-powered palm nailer and tubing-connection tools to a battery-heated jacket and even non-powered hand tools—that will be coming out this fall. The event also showed off dozens more new products the company has brought to market this year, including a battery-powered grease gun, a cordless no-hub coupling driver and a wide range of non-powered hand tools. Products 08/04/2010 Flap-Disc Abrasives: Redesigned for Higher Performance DeWalt’s Extended-Performance Flap Discs are designed with a more durable cloth that has an improved grain and resin compared to previous DeWalt high-performance flap discs. The discs have been redesigned with a significantly larger surface area as well as a longer usage life. DeWalt now is offering Wearable Flap Discs for weld blending, material removal and welding preparation. The discs feature a backing that wears away as the disc is used, which allows for full access to the cloth. The removal rate is comparable to conventional grinding wheels. China continued its investment in Africa’s infrastructure—and in South Africa’s deep need for cement—when a Chinese cement maker formed a partnership to build a plant with two South African companies. Jidong Development Group, the largest cement producer in northern China, has signed a partnership with South Africa’s leading black-women-owned company, Women Investment Portfolio Holdings Limited (WIPHOLD), and with limestone mining firm Continental Cement. The deal is for construction of a new $218-million cement plant in Limpopo, the northernmost province of South Africa. Scheduled to begin operation this summer, the newly built 269,000-sq-ft Liebherr Monterrey S. de R.L. de C.V. factory sits on 74 acres near Garcia in northern Mexico, about 85 miles southwest of McAllen, Texas. It will operate under two managing directors, one responsible for production and development, the other for business administration and finance.
