Dominion Energy has stopped work on 100 miles of the 600-mile Atlantic Coast natural gas pipeline following a court decision vacating a permit related to threatened and endangered species, while an effort continues to force a work stoppage on the entire project.
The approval of a project called Embark Richmond Highway in Fairfax County, Va. will result in a major makeover of the U.S. Route 1 corridor near Mt. Vernon.
With tunneling on a new one-mile tube for the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel set to begin next year, project officials are readying plans for handling an estimated 500,000 cu yd of potentially tainted spoil to be produced by a 42-ft-dia tunnel-boring machine, currently under construction in Germany.
