Caltrans is preparing to break ground on a massive wildlife crossing that will span 10 lanes across the busy 101 Freeway in western Los Angeles County.
As part of an overall strategy to relieve congestion and expand mobility options in Santa Barbara County, Calif., Granite Construction is serving as construction manager for Caltrans’ upgrade of a 10.8-mile segment of U.S. Route 101 between the cities of Santa Barbara and Carpinteria.
Crews are focusing on punch-list items and fiber-reinforced wrapping of bridge columns following a fast-track overpass replacement made possible by long-standing relationships between subcontractors and suppliers and a contracting company’s history of similar feats, according to project team members.
Thanks to voters who have raised taxes on themselves to fund transportation projects, California can expect to benefit from a robust capital program in the years to come.
The Watsonville contractor was tapped for the Highway 101 Carpinteria to Santa Barbara project as well as the Cosumnes Bridge replacement project in Sacramento County.
