The $162-million Great Hall Program Phase 2 is actually the first of two phases aimed at improving security and efficiency while increasing the airport’s capacity to accommodate 100 million annual passengers.
The project's program included efforts to sequence and stage building work to allow passenger vehicle and bus traffic to access each terminal throughout the $209-million, four-year project.
Located within historic Delaware Park, the project upgraded the original museum building with 43,500 sq ft of renovated spaces and expanded it with 67,000 net sq ft of new space and 60,000 sq ft of underground parking.
The design-build team on this $445-million renovation, which broke ground in October 2019 and completed in September 2023, transformed a 35-year-old terminal with an intuitive design that optimizes the flow of passengers.
From the day it broke ground in September 2019 to its grand opening exactly four years later, the Brightline passenger railroad’s 170-mile extension from West Palm Beach to Orlando has been a novel, even audacious undertaking.
To solve congestion and passenger flow issues, a 35,000-sq-ft renovation and 10,000-sq-ft addition has transformed the airport’s ticketing hall into the new front door and gateway to the Reno-Tahoe region.
