Michael Townes has joined engineer Wilbur Smith Associates, Columbia, S.C., as senior vice president and national transit services leader. He had been president and CEO of the Hampton Roads Transportation District Commission in Virginia. Townes is a board member of the Virginia High Speed Rail Development Committee and former chairman of the American Public Transportation Association Executive Committee as well as co-chairman of its reauthorization task force. He also was chairman of the Transportation Research Board’s executive committee.
