Solstice Advanced Materials Inc. is considering constructing a new uranium conversion plant at the site of its Metropolis Works uranium hexafluoride (UF6) plant in Metropolis. The Metropolis 2.0 project’s scope includes construction of a building and equipment foundations; and purchase and installation of sizing, reduction, hydrofluorination, fluorination, distillation, waste treatment and sodium removal equipment and systems. A construction schedule will be developed following positive results from a feasibility study expected to be complete in the fourth quarter of 2026. The project’s cost is estimated at $1 billion. Louisiana
Shintech Inc. is planning to expand its petrochemicals complex in Plaquemine. The phased project’s scope includes construction of a second ethylene unit, a fourth chloralkali and vinyl chloride monomer unit, and equipment foundations; fabrication and erection of structural steel and storage tanks; purchase and installation of a hydrochloric acid furnace, reactors, distillation columns, cooling towers, heat exchangers, scrubbers and purification equipment. The project’s construction schedule is being developed; completion of the first phase is expected in 2030. The project’s cost is estimated at $3.4 billion. Ohio
First Quality Home Care Products is planning to establish a cleaning products plant in Archbold. The project’s scope includes renovation of the 1.2-million sq ft, former Sauder Woodworking Co. distribution building, as well as purchase and installation of chemical storage tanks, process vessels, mixers and filling, process and flow control equipment and systems. The project’s construction schedule is still being developed; project completion is expected in the first or second quarter of 2028. First Quality Home Care Products is a new division of First Quality Enterprises Inc., and will use the facility to produce laundry and dishwashing detergents, fabric finishers and other household cleaning products.
