United States Steel Corp. is planning to construct a direct reduced iron (DRI) plant at its Big River Steel mill site in Osceola. Project scope includes construction of building space and equipment foundations; erection of structural steel; and purchase and installation of a reduction furnace, conveyors, coke ovens and iron ore and coke handling equipment and systems. A construction schedule will be developed following permit approvals. The company will use the plant to produce DRI feedstock for the steel mill’s electric arc furnaces. United States Steel is also planning to upgrade the No. 14 blast furnace and hot strip mill at its Gary Works mill in Gary, Ind., and construct a slag recycling facility and upgrade the hot strip mill at its Mon Valley Works’ Edgar Thomson Plant in Braddock, Pa. Colorado
Swire Coca-Cola, USA is planning to construct a beverage bottling plant at Peak Innovation Park in Colorado Springs. Project scope includes construction of a 620,000-sq-ft building; and purchase and installation of stainless steel tanks and piping, resin storage silos, conveyors, chillers, and extrusion, mixing, flow metering, filling, labeling, capping, bar coding and packaging equipment and systems. The Whiting-Turner Contracting Co. has been selected to provide design-build services. Construction is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2026. Swire will use the plant to produce canned and bottled sparkling soft drinks, waters, teas, juice drinks and sports beverages. The facility will replace the company’s current Denver plant. Kentucky
EJ Group, Inc. is considering constructing an iron foundry in Franklin. The project’s scope includes construction of building space and equipment foundations; and purchase and installation of a furnace, overhead cranes, conveyors and casting, machining and finishing equipment and systems. A construction schedule has not been developed. EJ Group would use the foundry to produce manhole covers, tree grates and other access solutions for water, sewer, drainage, telecommunications and utility networks. EJ Group, Inc.
