A Closer Look at Record-Sized Pools That Resemble Oases
The San Alfonso del Mar pool in Chile was the first large pool created by Crystal Lagoons. Opened in 2006, it is 1 km long, with a surface area of 19 acres. It was the world's largest swimming pool in surface area until the completion of the pool in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. Unlike most other Crystal Lagoons pools, the San Alfonso del Mar pool has a maximum depth of 115 ft. It holds 66 million gallons of water, giving it the world record as the largest swimming pool in terms of capacity.

The Crystal Lagoon at the Diamante luxury community is located in Cabo San Lucas, at the tip of the Baja California Peninsula on Mexico's Pacific Coast. The 12.5-acre pool opened in 2013. It contains 21.1 million gallons of water.

The Crystal Lagoons pool at the Citystars resort in Sharm El Sheikh, near the Red Sea at the tip of Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, currently holds the world record for the largest swimming pool in surface area, at 29.2 acres. At 2,428 ft long and 591 ft wide, the pool has an average depth of 6 ft, 10 in., and a maximum depth of 8 ft; it holds 62.6 million gallons of water. It opened in late 2012. Cairo-based Engineering Construction Office served as the general contractor.

A Crystal Lagoon is under construction at the MahaSamutr luxury resort in Hua Hin, Thailand, a beach-resort town 200 kilometers south of Bangkok. When completed in late 2014, the 15-acre pool will hold 36.9 million gallons of water.
