Three mid-rise buildings spanning 591,000 sq ft comprise one of UCLA’s latest student housing facilities. The complex features apartment-style units and reached completion in October 2022.

When the design team’s foundation work sequencing became unfeasible after the owner asked to accelerate the schedule by two months, the construction team proposed a revised sequencing plan that involved applying plaster along with sections of the precast base in the same sequence. This adjustment ensured early completion.

The self-perform concrete package was the largest ever undertaken by PCL California Buildings. Work included 10 foundation placements with 800 cu yd of concrete each, 158 vertical placements ranging from 20 cu yd to 60 cu yd, nine slab-on-grade placements of 200 cu yd each and 67 elevated slab placements at 260 cu yd each, for a total of 35,500 cu yd of concrete.

A moisture detection monitoring system provided comprehensive protection against water damage throughout construction. By detecting potential issues and alerting the project team immediately, the system prevented costly water damage incidents and saved the project from at least one pipe leak.
