Golden Empire Transit recently celebrated the opening of its expanded transit center at California State University- Bakersfield (CSUB).The public transportation provider has been working with global architecture and engineering firm Stantec, who provided architecture, lighting design, and landscape architecture services. The expanded transit center will allow for future added bus service to transport students, staff, faculty, and residents easily and safely to and from the campus.

The Kiewit-Stantec design-build team recently broke ground on two multi-year projects that together total $400 million and will help remediate water from the San Fernando Valley Groundwater Basin (SFB) for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP). The SFB covers 226 square miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles. Once fully restored, the SFB can provide drinking water to more than 800,000 Angelenos.

The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Sacramento District selected Kleinfelder and Stantec to provide engineering services for levee improvements on the Sacramento River in Northern California. The design project consists of seepage/stability improvements along the Sacramento River East Levee (SREL) downstream of the American River confluence in Sacramento. The project is part of the ongoing modernization of Sacramento’s aging flood infrastructure system.

Level 10 Construction's 200 Park project is the first project in California to use the SpeedCore system for erecting a building core. SpeedCore is a system that uses concrete-filled composite plate shear wall (CF-CPSW) components for the building's core. The team on this 19-story high-rise in downtown San Jose recently erected a full-size mock-up of one of the components of the system. Global design firm Stantec has been selected by the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) to design a new $38 million Transit Security and Operations Center (TSOC). The TSOC will address the needs OCTA’s operations with the goal of supporting job duties, efficiency, functionality, communication, and operations. The architectural design of the facility will ensure a civic presence for the new building while maintaining a high level of security for all building occupants and visitors.

Hawaii Pacific Health recently opened its new Straub Medical Center–Kahala Clinic & Urgent Care, an 8,232-square-foot facility at Kūʻono Marketplace. The construction phase for Orange County Transportation Authority’s Laguna Niguel-San Juan Capistrano Passing Siding project continues to be on track for an expected completion in 2021. Designed by HNTB, the project adds 1.8 miles of new passing siding railroad track between the Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo Metrolink Station and Trabuco Creek in San Juan Capistrano. When completed, it will reduce delays, increase safety, and provide more reliable rail service.

GSA's San Ysidro Land Port of Entry (LPOE) celebrated the official completion of a $741 million, three-phase expansion project on December 17, 2019. The design-build team of Hensel Phelps and Stantec completed Phase II of the three-phase GSA expansion and renovation project, delivering a complete reconstruction of the LPOE’s pedestrian- and bus-inspection facilities, which included inspection booths for 18 northbound pedestrian-processing lanes and four northbound bus-processing lanes.

The San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission selected Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN) to provide rail engineering support services for Altamont Corridor Express® (ACE) platform extension at Fremont station. The project will extend the platform at Fremont station by 400 feet to accommodate longer 10-car trains. Platform extensions to accommodate eight-car and 10-car trains are under development at four ACE-controlled stations. Fremont will be the fifth station to extend its platform length.

The Sacramento Municipal Utilities District project is a combined project of Bayview Environmental & Demo Masters. Bayview Environmental Services, Inc. & Demo Masters, Inc. performed Interior Demolition, Asbestos and PCB Abatement, which included the following materials: Fireproofing, Floor Tile/Mastic, Miscellaneous Sealant. This work was performed in a five story historical building consisting of 150,000 square feet.

4000 N. First Street in San Jose was an Industrial Research and Development office where we performed work on four of the buildings around 318,000 Sq-ft. of land. This was a large project that required attention to detail, safety, and demolition expertise. The focus was to demolish both Interior and Exterior Building materials such as Exterior Buttresses, Concrete Drilling and Cutting, Removal of Glassing, Roofing, and Tile Wall so that the buildings could be renovated and sold.

River of Life Christian Church welcomed a new sanctuary and lobby addition to its current church facility located at 1177 Laurelwood Road in Santa Clara, Calif. The newly opened Shekinah Glory Temple includes a new lobby and a 2,000-seat sanctuary designed to accommodate the facility’s steady growth. Global design firm Stantec designed the 30,000-square-foot facility, which brings ROLCC’s total worship attendance to 3,500 at any given time.

Sakata Seed America celebrated its new Woodland Innovation Center with a grand opening on September 13. The innovation center, in the works since 2016, is a culmination of infrastructure and land enabling Sakata Seed America to consolidate and expand both research and development and production in a single campus that is flexible for future expansion. Stantec’s Sacramento office led the architectural design of the project and also provided interior design, landscape architecture, and LEED.

The Transportation Authority of Monterey County (TAMC) has selected civil engineering firm Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN) as part of the construction management team for the initial phase of Salinas Rail Extension. The Salinas Rail Extension will extend passenger rail service 68 miles from Gilroy in Santa Clara County south to Salinas in Monterey County, with connections to San Jose, Oakland and Sacramento. Construction will begin next year with service expected to start in 2020.

HENRY ADAMS was the MEP engineer for the complete modernization of the 83,500 SF Benfield Elementary School. The main goal of the modernization was to address the building’s inadequacies. To solve these problems, a large addition was added to the rear of the building to house physical education, food service, music and art/science components, as well as community use.

The University of Maryland Baltimore County’s Technology Center Chiller Plant was in need of an upgrade. HENRY ADAMS was called in as the MEP engineer under an on-call contract.
HENRY ADAMS provided the design to replace the existing chiller plant in the South Building Addition. The existing mechanical room had tight conditions, and that made providing access for new larger chillers a challenge. Two 215-ton centrifugal chillers were replaced with two 325-ton and piped in series.

Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center complex had a persistent problem. Their buildings utilized stand-alone generators that were difficult to maintain and all of which had varying reliability with no backup. HENRY ADAMS was the MEP engineer for the award-winning project including three (and ultimately four) 1825kW Prime Rated 13.2kV diesel generators, designed for EPA Tier 4i emissions standards in a central generator plant building (the first of its kind in Maryland).

In addition to being net-zero ready, the buildings are also being constructed to achieve Petal Certification from the Living Building Challenge, an international holistic sustainability certification. The floating dock structure will be 14,000 square feet of concrete floats with 10-foot high steel walkway structures anchored to the top. The main float walkway extends over 450 feet offshore with 6 finger floats each extending 136 feet perpendicular to the main. There will be 10 different utility lines running from land out to each of the mooring slips. The new terminal will be a non-passenger hub for San Francisco Bay Ferry’s fleet of 12 high-speed ferryboats. Vessels will be serviced, cleaned, fueled and stored overnight here while the facility will also function as an emergency operations center in the event of a regional disaster. There will be a multi-story Maintenance and Operations Building, working yard, fuel yard and a vast floating dock structure providing 12 berthing slips complete with full utility hook-ups.

WETA Central Bay Operations and Maintenance Facility in Alameda, CA. This is a brand-new ferry terminal for WETA San Francisco (Water Emergency Transportation Authority of San Francisco). This $49M design-build project was awarded to Overaa-Power a Joint Venture in May 2016 and is scheduled for completion in March 2018. While Overaa Construction is leading the landside efforts, Power Engineering Construction Co. is leading the marine efforts.

Heery International provided construction management services for the The City of West Hollywood's Automated Parking Garage and Community Plaza. The project is one of the first public automated parking garage of its kind in the U.S. The City embraced automated parking as an innovative solution to the challenge of creating sufficient parking. The garage requires a much smaller physical footprint than would a conventional parking structure with a similar capacity.

Level 10 Construction has been named the general contractor for a new Medical Office Building for the Escondido Medical Office Development 1, L. P.
Level 10 Construction’s San Diego office, said the medical office building, developed by JRMC Real Estate, will include the ground up construction of a 72,000-sq.-ft. warm shell. The architect is Richard Yen + Associates. Construction is scheduled to be completed in December of this year.
