He is a nationally recognized rail and transit expert who brings three decades of infrastructure leadership to the firm’s clients across the country. He is based in Oakland, California. Gertler previously worked at HNTB from 2004 to 2014 as rail and transit market service leader and principal project manager.

Jeff Watson of HNTB Corporation has been appointed to a two-year term on the California Transportation Foundation’s board of directors. He will serve on committees for CTF’s Annual Education Symposium, Transportation Awards, and Injured and Fallen Workers Fund. Watson is a vice president and Northern California operations manager for HNTB.
Hiep Bui, PE, joined HNTB Corporation’s expanding Southern California team as engineering manager for the Inland Empire. He will play a major role in the management of the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority program management/construction management contract for the Interstate 10 Corridor Express Lanes project. Additionally, he will support the firm’s work with Caltrans District 8 and Inland Empire clients’ infrastructure projects. Bui is based in the firm’s new Ontario office.

HNTB vice president Daniel Louis, PE, said the seminar serves as resource for disadvantaged business enterprises seeking participation in large-scale infrastructure projects, including Metro’s Purple Line Extension Section 3. Attendees had the opportunity to learn from PL3 Partners’ tunneling and mega-project engineers about challenging projects both within Los Angeles and other regions.

HNTB Corporation continued its industry leadership and involvement at the American Society of Civil Engineers Western regional conference held recently in L.A. by co-hosting an offsite event for ASCE attendees. The event provided an opportunity for attendees to learn about and tour the HNTB-designed Sixth Street Viaduct Replacement project, the largest bridge project in the history of Los Angeles led by the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Engineering, said Terence Pao, HNTB project manager.
Jack Allen, HNTB National Environmental Planning Leader co-authored a Transportation Point Extra article entitled Expediting Environmental Reviews Under the FAST Act. The Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act provides several important program refinements and initiatives that, when taken together, will help project sponsors accelerate delivery of capital projects through improved planning, expedited environmental reviews and decision-making.
