HNTB's downtown Los Angeles office held its last community giving event of the year 2019. The team, including Thomas Crane, went to the Exceptional Children’s Foundation (ECF), an art studio for adults with developmental disabilities. They spent time getting to know the artists, toured the studio, decorated Christmas cards and cookies, and surprised them with a pizza party!

The Chinese American Construction Professionals (CACP) is a non-profit organization. The SPARK LA partnership between HNTB Corporation and the Los Angeles Board of Public Works has completed its third year at Los Angeles Unified School District’s all-girls secondary school – the Girls Academic Leadership Academy.Participants presented an end-of-year project incorporating their learning at a Los Angeles City Hall Board of Public Works meeting in April.The eight-week program related to infrastructure was led by Laura Mohr, PE, HNTB transportation group director and vice president.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at Long Beach Airport (LGB) to celebrate the completed reconstruction of Runway 8R-26L, which is primarily used for general aviation. Runway 26L is Long Beach Airport’s shortest but busiest runway. HNTB Corporation was the designer for the project, and All American Asphalt was the general contractor. SPARK LA students participate in the free after-school program that includes bridge and airport design, water engineering, and rail planning. HNTB, in collaboration with the Board of Public Works, developed eight interactive sessions related to infrastructure. Survivors, supporters and their families arrived to Aerolease Associates and were treated to a catered lunch before meeting and hearing from some of the aviation industry leaders and professionals from around Van Nuys Airport.

HNTB Corporation participated in the 2017 “Meet the Primes” networking event hosted by Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority in downtown Los Angeles. The event provided an opportunity for disadvantaged and small businesses to meet and network with HNTB and other prime contractors in the region to learn how to partner on major infrastructure projects, including Metro’s Purple Line Extension, Section 3. One-on-one interviews were conducted with prospective DBE/SBE partners.

The Riverside Drive Bridge opening ceremony was held on Jan. 30, 2017 in Los Angeles. As designer and engineer of record for the project, HNTB attended the event to join Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and L.A. City Engineer Gary Lee Moore. Andres Ocon, HNTB Southern California office leader, Yung-Nien Wang, director of structure, and Jackie Wang, design engineer, were present for the ceremony. L.A. city engineer Gary Lee Moore publicly recognized HNTB as designer.

HNTB-led PL3 Partners – a joint venture between HNTB, Jacobs, JGM & EPC – is committed to providing resources to local disadvantaged businesses. The workshop, entitled “Introduction to Tunneling and Underground Construction for Los Angeles Disadvantaged Business Enterprises,” took place in downtown L.A. on January 18, attracting more than 30 attendees. The goal of the workshop was to promote opportunities to participate in future related work & increasing attendees’ large-project capabilities.

HNTB Corporation continued its industry leadership and involvement at the American Society of Civil Engineers Western regional conference held recently in L.A. by co-hosting an offsite event for ASCE attendees. The event provided an opportunity for attendees to learn about and tour the HNTB-designed Sixth Street Viaduct Replacement project, the largest bridge project in the history of Los Angeles led by the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Engineering, said Terence Pao, HNTB project manager.

HNTB, in collaboration with the Board of Public Works, is developing 16 interactive sessions related to infrastructure, including field trips to the Hyperion Treatment Plan and the Crenshaw Light Rail Construction site. Sessions will be led by a team of practitioners who will share career information and help small teams develop year-end projects that incorporate their learning. These projects will be presented to the Board of Public Works at City Hall.
