Award of Merit, Renovation/Restoration: Luanda Roads Revitalization
Almost 20 years after a destructive civil war, the capital of Angola still suffers from obsolete and degraded infrastructure. This project repaired and modernized 20 parks, nine avenues, 15 streets and accompanying infrastructure, directly benefiting 150,000 inhabitants in the city of Luanda.
The project included plans for a solid waste collection, recommendations to improve traffic flow and environmental education campaigns. Technicians from Brazil, together with their local counterparts, trained 240 new traffic police agents with the aim of reducing traffic restrictions and disorganized traffic stops.
