A 175,000-sq-ft main terminal building is the next major project in Portland International Airport’s $2-billion PDX Next program. The construction joint venture of Hoffman Construction Co. and Skanska USA are preparing to award the initial enabling contracts for the $1.5-billion facility, which will double existing ticketing and lobby space when it opens in spring 2025 to help handle an expected annual passenger jump from 20 million to 35 million. Hoffman-Skanska is also wrapping up work on a $42-million redevelopment and expansion of the airport’s Concourse B, which includes the addition of six ground-load and four loading bridge gates, exterior improvements and demolition of an older concourse. Funded largely by tenant airlines and federal agencies, PDX Next is readying to open a JE Dunn-built flexible transit hub next year, providing on-site rental car operations. A new YGH Architects-designed update will also add space for light rail and bike-path enhancements.
