Georgia GEDIA Automotive Group is planning to construct an automotive components manufacturing plant at Carbondale Business Park near Dalton. The project scope includes construction of a 180,000-sq-ft building and equipment foundations; installation of a hot-forming line and automated welding equipment; and purchase and installation of overhead cranes, conveyors, chillers, racking and other supporting equipment. SSOE Group has been selected to provide design engineering services for the project. Construction is expected to begin in the late third or fourth quarter of 2020. Germany-based GEDIA will use the plant to produce side-impact beams, chassis parts, bumpers and other structural components for electric vehicles. The estimated EPC cost is $85 million. Louisiana Renewable Energy Group Inc. is considering expanding its biorefinery in Geismar. The project scope includes construction of equipment foundations and the purchase and installation of feedstock receiving, handling and pretreatment equipment as well as reactors, process vessels, storage tanks and marine-loading and flow-control equipment. The plant’s production capacity would increase from 75 million gallons per year of renewable hydrocarbon diesel, naphtha and liquefied petroleum gas to 225 million gallons per year. Pennsylvania CANPACK Group is planning to construct an aluminum beverage can manufacturing plant at the 102-acre former Technicolor site in Olyphant. The project scope includes construction of a 900,000-sq-ft building and the purchase and installation of automated conveyors; ovens; lithographs; and punching, body-making, cutting, coating, cleaning, cooling and palletizing equipment. Demolition at the site is underway; a construction schedule is being developed. Poland-based CANPACK Group and Giorgio Fresh Co. are both subsidiaries of The Giorgi Companies.
