President Donald Trump says he backs legislation to launch a mammoth infrastructure investment program, in a follow-up bill to the new Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act (see p. 8). In a March 31 tweet, Trump said a new infrastructure plan should be “VERY BIG & BOLD” and total $2 trillion. That’s roughly the same funding as the CARES Act. He provided no immediate details. Construction groups were already looking to have a sizable infrastructure program in a CARES Act follow-on measure. Trump has called for big infrastructure programs before, but they gained little traction in Congress.
