The $1-billion Auckland City Rail Link, New Zealand’s largest infrastructure project, aims to ease urban congestion with a 2.1-mile underground extension of an existing electric-powered rail line. Scheduled for completion in 2024, the 137-ft-deep twin tunnels will be served by two new underground stations and a redeveloped Mount Eden Station. Australia-based Aurecon led the design consortium, while the seven-member multinational construction team includes Vinci, AECOM and WSP.
