California Glendale Water & Power is planning to repower its 238-MW Grayson Power Plant. The project’s scope includes construction of foundations; purchase and erection of structural steel; demolition and removal of the current boiler building, steam turbines and cooling towers; installation of simple- and combined-cycle combustion turbine generator units, to be supplied by Siemens Corp.; and purchase and installation of heat-recovery steam generators and fuel gas compressors. The project will increase power generation capacity to 250 MW. Stantec is the owner’s engineer. An EPC firm will be chosen from a short list of four: Haskell Corp., Kiewit Power Constructors, MasTec Power and PSC Primoris-ARB Inc. Georgia AVAPCO LLC is planning to construct an integrated biofuels plant at its demonstration biorefinery site in Thomaston. The project scope includes construction of equipment foundations and purchase and installation of reactors, storage tanks and pre-treatment, fermentation and distillation equipment. Byogy Renewables Inc., a partner in the project, will provide its alcohol-to-jet fuel process technology and Petron Scientech Inc., another project partner, will provide ethanol-to-ethylene conversion technology. Indiana Saturn Petcare GmbH, a subsidiary of German-based heristo aktien­gesellschaft, is considering establishing a wet pet food production facility on the 38-acre former Kellogg Co. site in Seelyville. The project scope includes renovation of a building and purchase and installation of automated conveyors and mixing, filling, sealing and packaging equipment. Massachusetts Boston Sword & Tuna Inc. is planning to construct a seafood processing facility at the Massport Marine Terminal in Boston. The project scope includes construction of a 48,000-sq-ft building and purchase and installation of stainless steel piping and cleaning, cutting, refrigeration and packaging equipment. Pilot Development Partners Inc. is the building developer. Commodore Builders has been selected to provide general construction services for the project. Construction is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2018. Ohio Mitsui Chemicals Inc. is planning to construct a thermoplastic olefin (TPO) elastomers plant at its Advanced Composites Inc. subsidiary’s polypropylene production facility in Sidney. The project scope includes construction of building space, process structures and equipment foundations; purchase and erection of structural steel; and purchase and installation of silos, hoppers and mixing, blending, extrusion and pelletizing equipment. The facility will have the capacity to produce 6,000 metric tons peryear of TPO for use as a substitute for vinyl chloride and vulcanized rubber. Oklahoma Sofidel America is planning to construct an integrated tissue paper mill in Inola. The project scope includes construction of an estimated 1.8 million sq ft of building space and equipment foundations; purchase and erection of structural steel; construction and installation of two 120,000 metric-tons-per-year tissue paper machines as well as a cogeneration unit; and purchase and installation of pulping and stock preparation equipment, sectional drive systems and automated converting machinery. Oregon The U.S. Endowment for Forestry and Communities, in collaboration with its subsidiary Oregon Torrefaction LLC, is planning to construct a wood biomass torrefaction plant at the Malheur Lumber mill site in John Day. The project scope includes renovation of building space; demolition and removal of some equipment; purchase and erection of structural steel; installation of a torrefaction reactor, hammer mill, chipper, 80-100-ft-long dryer and a 70-80-ft-long rotary kiln; and the purchase and installation of conveyors, screens, a cooler and dust collection, handling and truck loading equipment. The plant will operate as Restoration Fuels LLC and have the capacity to process waste wood into 100,000 tons of fuel briquettes per year.
