The National Aeronautics and Space Administration will help the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement to analyze and reduce risks for offshore oil-and-gas operations under a memorandum of understanding signed on March 17. Under a five-year agreement, NASA will share its best risk-management approaches with BSEE, as well as its probabilistic risk-assessment techniques. Under the agreement, NASA will help BSEE to evaluate, design and test technologies and hardware for offshore operations. BSEE also will be able to use the failure analysis laboratory at Johnson Space Center. NASA’s risk assessment was a technique used in the Space Shuttle Program.
