Block Island Wind Farm crews on Nov. 2 completed the installation of five 400-ton steel-jacket foundations and the first deck for the 30-MW demo project, located about three miles west of the island. On Oct. 20, the mooring line, which connected two transport barges containing five deck platforms, broke in rough waters off the west coast of Block Island, but one displaced barge was quickly secured and towed to another location by tug. Crews are lifting and welding the remaining deck sections onto the foundations and should complete that work by the end of the month. The Weeks Marine-Manson Construction joint venture is serving as the offshore foundation installation contractor.
