Patrick D. Finley has become the new general president of the plasterers' and cement masons' union. Finley has been general secretary-treasurer of the Operative Plasterers' and Cement Masons' International Association since 1996. He assumed the union's top post on Dec. 31.

Finley succeeds John J. Dougherty, who in August announced that he would be retiring at the end of 2006. The union's executive board then elected Finley to serve the rest of Dougherty's unexpired term, which extends through 2009.

Dougherty was appointed general president in 1996, later elected to a full term and in 2004 re-elected to serve another five years in the position.
