Jury Picks San Francisco's Transbay Project Scheme

On Sept. 20, San Francisco’s Transbay Joint Powers Authority will consider the recommendation of its nine-member design competition jury for a development scheme proposed by a team of architect Pelli Clarke Pelli and developer Hines. The concept for a 1-million-sq-ft Transit Center and a 1,200-ft-tall tower, which was selected over entries from architects Richard Rogers and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, includes a 5.4-acre rooftop park over the Transit Center. The Transbay Tower, conceived as the city’s tallest, would include a public space at its base, covered by a glass-and-steel canopy. Public comments on the three schemes, viewable at www.transbaycenter.org, are accepted until Sept. 17.
